Dunn pleaed to see striker Beck get off the mark in Pinchbeck United victory

A moment of ingenuity was just the ticket for Pinchbeck United on Saturday as they saw off rivals Wellingborough Town 1-0.

Lee Beeson’s clever free-kick on 54 minutes allowed Alex Beck to open his Knights account with a typical finish at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, making it four games unbeaten for Ian Dunn’s side in the process.

Beck had earlier seen a goal ruled out in the first half, while Pinchbeck were indebted to a super stop from Ricky Lovelace before the break.

The Knights also had a huge chance to wrap up the points late on, but Beeson miss-kicked his strike and Beck blazed the ball over in a bizarre sequence of events.

It mattered little, however, with Dunn happy enough with what he saw.

He said: “The pitch was so dry – so it was very hard to play any football.

“Wellingborough are always a tough side to beat and they had chances in the first half.

“But we improved and a moment of ingenuity did the trick for us. I was pleased for Alex, he’s had a few goals ruled out and hit both the bar and post in recent weeks.

“That goal should do him the world of good.

“It felt a bit like last season really; we kept ourselves solid and once we got ahead, I didn’t feel like we’d lose.

“We managed to win the game when not quite at our best, which was something we managed last year, too.

“We should have finished them off with another goal, but it didn’t matter in the end.”

Knights: Lovelace, Wilson, Cartwright, Shipley, Jackson, Limb, Beeson, Vince, Beck, Edwards (Maltby 64), Adams (Nuttell 77). Not used: Ross, West, Dunn.

Attendance: 64.
