Pinchbeck United seven unbeaten in league after comeback victory at Rothwell

Pinchbeck United 3

Player/boss Ian Dunn admitted that he was happy to escape a “horrible game” at Rothwell Corinthians with all three points on Saturday.

The Knights remain in third place in the Future Lions UCL Premier Division after a hard-fought 3-2 success at Seargents Lawn – but it was far from routine.

All looked to be going to plan when new signing Jack Smith made it two goals in as many games since joining from Holbeach United.

The Knights led 1-0 at the break, but two quick-fire goals from the hosts saw them fall behind against a side that knocked them out of the Emirates FA Cup earlier in the season.

However, they dug deep and levelled through a Lee Beeson penalty before Ollie Maltby poked home an opportunistic winner.

Dunn, who has now seen his side go seven league games unbeaten, said: “It was a horrible game – the kind you’re just happy to escape with the points.

“The pitch was heavy, the balls were hard. When I walked onto the pitch, I took half of it with me! It maybe suited them better, but that’s no excuse – it was the same for both sides.

“It was all about who made the least mistakes, really.

“They started well, but we rode it out and went ahead and looked dangerous going forward.

“We were punished twice in the second half after making basic errors and I wondered if it wasn’t going to be our day.

“Thankfully, we got a penalty – albeit Jack Smith was kicked in the head before he was about to score – and then they struggled to deal with a Tyler Wright cross and Ollie poked the ball home.

“It’s not a game we’ll remember for too long, but we’re glad to take the three points and move on.”

Knights: Lovelace, Wilson, Wright, Jackson, Cartwright, Tidswell, Adams, Beeson, Limb, Maltby, Jack Smith. Subs used: Edwards, Field, Shipley. Not used: Dunn, Jack Smith (defender).
