Supplies back on after burst main left hundreds without water

Over 100 homes to the south west of Spalding were without water for most of this morning after a burst water main.

Anglian Water’s website says the affected areas of town included around Hawthorn Bank and Little London plus Cuckoo Bridge, Spalding Common and Tongue End.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “Our teams were called this morning to repair a burst water main in Spalding that had affected 109 properties in the area.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience this caused and would like to thank customers for the patience whilst we worked to restore supplies.

“All customers should now be back on water as normal.

“Our engineers are still working to repair the pipe itself.

“Two-way traffic management lights are currently in place on Spalding Common Road to allow our teams to work safely and complete this work as quickly as possible. We estimate the full repair and the removal of lights to be completed by 6pm on Friday.

“Some customers in the area may notice their water is slightly cloudy or discoloured.

“This is harmless and caused by a combination of millions of tiny air bubbles due to the recent pressure changes in the pipe as a result of the burst.

“If you leave the water to clear in a glass or run your tap for a bit it will soon disappear, or run the tap for a few minutes and it will clear.

“This water run-off can be collected in a bowl and used on the garden so it’s not wasted. For more information, visit our website at www.anglianwater.co.uk/cloudy.”

A member of the public who lives in Stennett Avenue, Spalding and who wished to remain anonymous, said; “I live in an area where all my neighbours are elderly and many of them are ill.

“Not getting any water out in this heat is not very good.”
