The state of Holbeach’s public toilets has been slammed as unclean by a businesswoman who uses them everyday with needles among the items she has found there.
Michelle Manley owns and runs Retro Vintage Modern gift shop on Park Road, but as the shops there have no toilet facilities, she must use the South Holland District Council ran public conveniences on Church Street.
She says she regularly experiences the toilets in a poor state of cleanliness and has found needles.
The Voice had decided not to publish pictures taken by Michelle of the state of the toilets.
“It’s currently the worst its ever been,” Michelle said. “The roof leaks so you always have to wade through when it’s raining.
“I take my own loo roll as nine times out of 10 the roll provided is drenched.
“We’ve found empty bottles of vodka and have found needles.
“We’ve made a number of complaints including when one weekend the locks were broken off.
“They were fixed by the Wednesday but it still meant a few days on the toilet holding the door closed with your feet.”
The toilets are open from 8am to 5pm Monday to Saturday.
There closure on Sundays meant that this year Michelle was unable to open on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
A South Holland District Council spokesperson said: “We take the cleanliness of our public facilities very seriously.
“An officer will be visiting the site to clean and secure as appropriate.
“We encourage anyone with any concerns about cleanliness to contact us via: www.sholland.gov.uk/reportit”
