Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s Jordan plays his part as England win international series

Top Spalding Indoor Bowls Club talent Jordan Philpott was part of the victorious England team in the Under-25 Home International series over the weekend.

Philpott was selected at number two at the Newport event, with Perry Martin (Swale) as the skip, Jack Bird (Scarborough) number two and Connor Cinato (Kingsthorpe) playing three.

First up was Ireland, with the rink winning 31-9, as England won 92-66.

England beat Wales 96-58 with Philpott’s rink losing 22-12 as a final day showdown with Scotland was to come.

England found themselves behind for much of the game before taking the lead with just two ends remaining.

Philpott’s rink then lost 24-12 as England clinched the series with a 76-72 scoreline.

  • Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s eighth over-60s game of the season was at home against Scunthorpe on Thursday.

Spalding started strongly as Scunthorpe struggled to adjust to the green.

At the half-way stage Spalding were winning on three rinks and narrowly losing on the other two but, more importantly, they were leading by 12 shots.

The visitors finished strongly but Spalding held on to win on three rinks, although Scunthorpe took the aggregate by seven shots.

The final result was 12 points to six in Scunthorpe’s favour, with the shots score being 94-87 to Scunthorpe.

Best winning rink for Spalding was skipped by Graham Hicks, with Allan Browne, Mike Taylor and Martin Hawkes.

Captain for the day was David Lunn, assisted by Graham Hicks.
