Billiards round-up: Holbeach C and Crowland A on form with whitewash victories

Two teams recorded maximum 7-0 wins in Spalding and District Billiards League on Monday night.

Both Holbeach C and Crowland A picked up seven points apiece, seeing off Pyramid A and Consti B respectively.

Holbeach’s whitewash win keeps them on the edge of the title race in third, some 10.5 points off the pace.

Crowland A, meanwhile, were boosted by breaks of 28 and 21 from Richard Wesley (R70).

Cue ace Mick Johnson (O180) did manage eight breaks of 20 or more, the best of which being a 39, but he was still beaten by Tery Everitt (O10).

Elsewhere, and with leaders Long Sutton not in action, second-placed Donington beat Consti C 5-2 to cut their lead to 5.5 points. They were inspired by breaks of 26, 23 and 20 from Matt Turner (R50), Sid Shaw (scr) and Ben Wrigglesworth (R60) respectively.

Also 5-2 winners were Pyramid B, who defeated hosts Gosberton B despite a 30 break from Marcus Pell (O10). Martin O’Connor (scr) top scored with a 24 break for the Bourne side.

The closest game of the week saw Holbeach A edge out Consti D 4-3.

Alan Yardley (scr) starred with a fine 42 break for away side Holbeach.
