University Academy retain their Elite crown

University Academy Holbeach beat off competition from eight other county secondary schools to retain their Elite 11 title.

The inter-school event is organised by Boston College and sees pupils compete against each other in a variety of indoor sporting challenges, ranging from football and netball to golf and darts.

Each team comprised of a mixture of 11 boys and girls from years 10 and 11 who competed for the coveted Target Team Award. Individuals from the winning team received a Fitbit Flex activity tracker.

Students were also given a celebratory speech in the form of a pre-recorded video from Olympic gold medallist Adam Peaty and his coach double Olympian Melanie Marshall.

Boston College principal Amanda Mosek said: “Elite 11 has once again been a fantastic event and we were delighted to have nine schools participating in the event.

“It was an excellent day and has really shown how much sporting talent there is in Lincolnshire.”

The winning University Academy Holbeach team consisted of Eden Willmott, Mollie Medcalf, Amy Weed, Hope Harold, Harry Crunckhorn, Jordan Olive, Charlie Ford, Lewis Turner, Harry Cowper-Johnson, Kieran Steel and Harry Colishaw.

Carl Wilson, Head of PE, said: “It was a well organised event by Boston College and has once again provided a great opportunity for the students to showcase their skills.

“The broad range of challenges required the competitors to apply themselves both mentally and physically, using team work skills to think tactically ahead of the tasks.

“It feels great to have won the trophy for the second year running. It’s a real boost for the students who have all had fun.”
