Matthew and Jack Barnett shared an incredible unbeaten stand of 214 to fire Moulton Harrox to a ten-wicket win over Welby Cavaliers on Saturday.
Harrox looked to be up against it in the South Lincs and Border League Division One clash when Welby posted a competitive 212-7 at Harrox Field.
But that score was absolutely blown away by the Barnett boys, with Matthew notching an incredible 115 not out and Jack blasting a stellar unbeaten 91.
Welby’s innings was a collective effort from the middle order after opening duo David Johnson (11) and Vidit Matta (4) fell cheaply.
Simon Meadows (37), Jamie Hayes (47) and Mark Dale (50) all chipped in with good knocks to help them pass 200 in their 45 overs.
Joe Lyon (4-37) was the pick of the Moulton bowlers and listed Meadows, Hayes and Dale among his victims.
Joe Broomfield, who was making his return to Harrox’s Saturday team after a brief stint with Long Sutton, also bagged a wicket, while Matthew Barnett (1-19) also claimed the scalp of Matta.
Harrox enjoy a run chase and this proved no exception, with the Barnett pairing making light work of Welby’s bowling attack.
Jack Barnett now tops the South Lincs and Border League statistics with 454 runs at an average of 151.33, which includes two tons.
Matthew Barnett is also in the top ten, having picked up 245 runs at average of 81.67.
Harrox’s stellar showing moves them up to third in the Division One table, but they are 43 points behind leaders Spalding Town 2nd with a game in hand.
They host second-placed Freiston on Saturday (1.30pm).
- Moulton Harrox 2nd also produced an impressive performance on Sunday to thrash Newborough 2nd by 75 runs in Rutland League Division Six.
Having been put into bat, Harrox hammered 243-2 before limiting their visitors to 168-9 in reply.
Moulton’s top three all fired with the bat, led by openers Lance Bettinson and Joe Broomfield.
Bettinson (67) passed 50 with an innings that included five fours before being bowled by Mark Cadman (1-52), while Broomfield (46) hit seven boundary fours.
Number three Clive Bayston carried on the good work with 74 not out, clubbing a six and seven fours of his own. Andrew Walker’s 74 was the highlight of Newborough’s reply, but his team-mates failed to get close to the target.
