Crafty staff at Spalding Library have scooped a national competition for their artistic display of this year’s Man Booker Prize shortlisted titles.
The Reading Agency supports the annual competition – providing free materials on which librarians can let loose their creative flair.
The idea is that the imaginative displays stop customers in their tracks and encourage them to find their next favourite read.
The display included three-dimensional feather and star motifs taken from the books’ themes and book jackets.
The prize was copies of the shortlisted titles for library users to enjoy.
Team Leader Sharman Morriss said: “We want to welcome more people into Lincolnshire libraries and making our stock, environment and services as attractive as possible is key to this.
“It’s so nice to see staff’s hard work recognised and also for them to be able to help put Lincolnshire on the map.”
Reading provides tremendous benefits to wellbeing – including improved concentration and lower stress levels – as well as being a source of pleasure.
In recognition of this, Spalding Library now holds weekly DEAR Time sessions, providing a dedicated comfortable, quite and relaxing area where customers can “drop everything and read”.
