One Sutton Bridge resident’s efforts to be prepared for flooding could soon see a new “top cat” on the block.
January Floodline Lottery winner Amanda Ashbrook is to put her £100 winnings towards purchase of a Maine Coon – the largest breed of domestic cat.
Amanda, of Railway Lane South, lives about half a mile from the tidal River Nene and in the past flood waters have crept across the fields to her doorstep.
She signed up for the Environment Agency’s automated flood alert messaging service in January, after hearing about the Boston Borough Council-led promotion through Sutton Bridge Parish Council.
Amanda has since helped spread the word about the “be prepared for flooding” free service via social media.
She also has the necessary paperwork for making her own domestic flood plan.
She said: “It made me think about how prepared we might be if we should get flooded – what things we would rescue first and move upstairs.”
Amanda won her £100 cash by simply submitting her details to the Floodline Lottery, agreeing to be signed up for automatic flood alert messages from the Environment Agency.
There is now another chance to win £100 cash this month, just by sending your details to Boston Borough Council for sign-up to the Environment Agency’s Floodline system, agreeing to receive flood alerts by landline, mobile phone, email and text message.
