LETTER: Traffic gridlock in tiny Spalding is ridiculous

I’ve been living in Spalding for almost a decade now, and no matter what anyone may think, Spalding is tiny.

It’s a beautiful town with a lot of history, but it is tiny. You can walk from end to end in 40 minutes, and driving takes five, maybe ten, tops.
But if a single entry road (or a bypass road) such as the A16, gets closed due to accidents, or the hopefully resolved level crossing issues, the whole town comes to a standstill.

A few Fridays ago, as I’m sure we can all remember well, the A16 between Pinchbeck and McDonald’s was closed, and the five to ten-minute drive became a 40-minute affair. Never in my time have I been better off walking home from work (Pinchbeck) than being driven by a friendly colleague (to whom I am indebted).

We really ought to be able to cope with a single road closure – for the whole of Spalding to become gridlocked is ridiculous and it just shouldn’t happen.
And I’m sick of the potholes too!
