Wigwam ‘glamp’ site brings tourists to area

The first visitors are set to try out a new “glamping” site in Spalding.

Third generation farmer TW Mews and Son, based in Quadring Eaudyke, have set up Crowtree Wigwams, a Wigwam Holidays franchise, to bring “glamorous camping” to the area.
Wigwam Holidays has more than 60 sites across the UK and a large following of clients who enjoy camping with a bit more luxury, those who want a quiet holiday and families with children who want to enjoy a “back to nature” experience.
The new site in Wragg Marsh, on the outskirts of Spalding, is the first of its kind in East Anglia and it is hoped it will bring increased tourism to the area, offering lots of places nearby to visit, as well as wide skies, open spaces and peace and quiet.
Although the business has only recently started taking bookings, some weekends in July and August are already fully booked.
The site currently boasts six wigwams, but planning permission has been granted for 12 and it is hoped the site will be developed further with children’s play area, nature area and pond, but the plans could change in accordance with feedback from guests.
The wigwams are suitable for all ages, with two king size beds sleeping up to four in comfort.
Travel cots and high chairs are also available to hire to make it a truly family-friendly holiday.
Wigwams can be booked as they stand or a variety of extras, including bedding, towels and firepits can be supplied.
All wigwams are en-suite with shower, toilet and washbasin, and are equipped with fridge, microwave, hob, kettle and toaster.
Crockery, cutlery and basic cooking utensils are also supplied.
They are also insulated and have panel heaters – perfect for all the British weather can throw at you.
Several wigwams, or even the whole site, can also be hired out for larger parties or family groups – and “little extras” such as birthday cakes and banners can even be arranged for special events.
Dog owners are welcome, with a maximum of three dogs per wigwam, and the site also arrange tennis court and bicycle hire.
Ann Mews, of Crowtree Wigwams, said: “The site is ideal as a base for exploring the local area or for those interested in bird watching.
“We are close to Springfields Exhibition Centre for those involved in activities there.
“We would welcome ‘interest groups’, reunions etc.
“Our neighbours, The Bike Inn, are advertising our site as accommodation for their cycle maintenance courses.
“The bookings we have already reflect countrywide interest, so the site is already bringing visitors to the area.”
Crowtree Wigwams is located at Crowtree Farmhouse, Wragg Marsh, Spalding, PE12 6HF.
