‘The guys who refitted my bathroom are a shower’

A bathroom refit at a Long Sutton home was of such poor quality that it will feature on national TV.

bathroom3Channel 5’s Cowboy Builders & Bodge Jobs filmed restoration work at Mandy Beattie’s home last week.
The £1,870 supply and fit of a bathroom suite and tiling turned into a “nightmare” when rooms flooded, allegedly due to a radiator not being capped.

Mandy, of Midsummer Gardens, said: “I woke up at 6am and heard the water.
“It was in my bedroom. I ran downstairs to turn the water off and my kitchen was under water.”
The lounge of her home, which she shares with daughters Caitlyn (16) and Jade (14), was also affected.bathroom2

Despite the first-night damage, Mandy allowed the Peterborough firm, who had been recommended by a work colleague, to carry on.
She said: “When they came to me and said the job was finished, I said ‘you’re joking!’
“It was absolutely horrendous. The shower was hanging off the wall and a lot of the wall tiles didn’t match.”

And after having to spend £2,000 on getting a proper job done, Mandy had a warning for people looking for tradesmen.
“Go and see their work – don’t rely on photos and the website,” she said. “I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through what we did. ”

A crew of 13 from the programme was at her house on Tuesday and Wednesday last week as the lounge was redecorated and carpets laid.
She said: “It’s fantastic, I’m over the moon. Some of them also worked with my daughters on a piece of wood veneer art for the wall.”

The programme is due to air in late August or early September.
