Late John honoured by Sutton Bridge and District Homing Society members

Sutton Bridge and District Homing Society paid tribute to a popular former secretary last week as they held the John Neve Memorial Race at Berwick.

The late Mr Neve was secretary for the club for many, many years – and was also an active pigeon fancier.

John’s wife Janet donated the prize money for first, second, and third member to clock a pigeon from the Berwick race, while his son Michael also donated a trophy for the first member to clock a pigeon in.

The first member to clock a pigeon was Terry Winterton, who won the trophy and £25 with a yearling bird (GB14X19829) flying 222 miles 677 yards in 4.25.08hrs –giving a velocity of 1476.198.

Second place went to John Lenson, who won £15 with a yearling bird (GB14X15892), flying 224.153 miles in 4.29.02hrs (velocity of 1465.937).

Third place went to Victor Martins, who won £10 with a yearling bird (GB14V21692) flying 220.923 miles in 4.25.52hrs (velocity of 1459.814).
