Planning decision for Cowbit home extension overturned on appeal

A Cowbit couple have successfully appealed a decision to refuse planning permission for an extension.

South Holland District Council told Mr and Mrs D Starr, of 16 Barrier Bank, that the proposed first-floor extension and alterations to a chalet bungalow was “tantamount to a new dwelling” and “represented an excessively large form of overdevelopment”.

However, a planning inspector ruled that “the proposal would represent an improvement to the character and appearance of the existing dwelling and the area by the creation of a dwelling that reflects the scale, form and detail of a larger, traditional farmhouse that would be more appropriate in this rural landscape.”

Six other appeals against council decisions were dismissed. They were:

  • Rear of 30 and 31 Double Street, Spalding (conversion of garage block into dwelling)
  • Land adj to 33A Branches Lane, Holbeach (bungalow and detached garage)
  • 11 West Cobgate, Moulton (residential development – outline)
  • 109 Albion Street, Spalding (residential development – two dwellings)
  • Former Bakehouse, 1a Sheep Market, Spalding (change of use to residential development)
  • (enforcement appeal) Land at 9 Cross Street, Holbeach (without planning permission, the erection of a timber shed/timber extension)
