Bowls Lincolnshire men’s county Middleton Cup team were victorious in their national quarter final last Saturday.
The team won by 16 shots (108-92) against Bowls Yorkshire at the neutral venue of Retford BC (in Nottinghamshire).
The players representing Lincolnshire from Royal Mail Cart were Ashley Caress, Kevin Ekins, Steve Hill, Dominic McVittie, Dan Mills, Chris Mycock, Jordan Philpott and the captain/manager, Martin Spencer.
They have now qualified for the national semi final against Bowls Warwickshire, with this match alongside the final itself later the same day (against Bowls Buckinghamshire or Bowls Wiltshire should the team be successful) being played on Sunday, August 30 to conclude the Bowls England National Finals at Royal Leamington Spa.
The side will be looking for their second Middleton Cup triumph in four seasons, after winning the competition in 2023 and being the runners-up last year in 2025.
The Bowls Lincolnshire mixed Over 60 Inter-County Championship team, also won their national quarter final in a very close match by two shots (106-104) versus Bowls Durham at the neutral venue of Dunnington BC (in Yorkshire) last Tuesday.
With the game tied at 100-100 after 18 ends on all six rinks, all players had to play an extra end to determine the winners, with the aggregate shots over those extra ends proving the difference where Lincolnshire managed six shots to Durham’s four and therefore succeeded in this tie.
The players representing Lincolnshire from Royal Mail Cart were Phil Cooke and Martin Simpson.
They have now qualified for the national semi final against Bowls Sussex, with this match alongside the final itself later the same day (against Bowls Northamptonshire or Bowls Devon should the team be successful) being played on Thursday, August 27 again held at the Bowls England National Finals in Royal Leamington Spa.
