Lincoln dig in to see off Rose & Crown’s tenacious challenge

Lincoln Arms beat Rose & Crown C 5-4 in a close Spalding League encounter.
Rose & Crown went 2-1 up from the pairs games but wins for Simon Hill and Luke Rhodes, who had an 18-dart leg, put Lincoln 3-2 up. Ant Richardson then won and had a 16-dart leg, followed by Logan Goddard, who had a 180 in his win over Jake Merrill. Lincoln did not give up and won the last two games, thanks to Tony Spinks and Dave Bourne. Bourne played particularly well and had a 100 checkout, a maximum 180 and a 17-dart leg. Steve Stancer also had a maximum in his game.
Rose & Crown A continue to pursue top spot and had a 7-2 win against Green Dragon A. Mick Holstead had the standout performance, hitting a 180 and a 115 checkout in his win over Gary Mace. There were two other good checkouts – 100 from Hank Watson and 103 from Chris Wing.
Consti A remain top of the table thanks to a 7-2 win over bottom side Drayman’s Arms B. Jason Vines has been playing well all season and kept his 100% record with an 18-dart leg in his singles win over Sandy Sandison. There were more good checkouts; Connor Hughes hit a 118 and Nick Moyses a fine 144.
Royal Mail Cart beat Consti D 6-3 and, although Paul Faulkner and Jacob Herd had a good 16-dart leg in their pairs win, the stand-out game was the last one where Josh Ford had two 180s in the same leg but did not even manage to get a shot at double, due to Ady Smith scoring equally heavily and checking out nicely.
In Division Two, Pinchbeck FC A remain top after a 6-3 win over Riverside B. Young Connor Mackenzie had a 180 in his pairs game with Will Cliff but lost out to James Hodgetts in the first singles game. The other singles winner for Riverside was captain Josh Higgins, who beat Andy Mason. The final game saw John Mackenzie check out on 100 to beat Lee Butler.
In a shock win Holbeach Services B beat Consti E 5-4. The match came down to the last game of the night and captain Jamie McHugh beat Mark Dixon 2-0 to take victory for Holbeach. Michael Baker had a 180 but lost to Paul Merrill in the singles.
Mulberrys beat Riverside A 7-2 with Shane Thorpe standing out by hitting seven scores of 100 or more.
Holbeach Services A won a tight encounter against Five Bells with Stu Stephens going on last for Holbeach and beating Travis Stapleton 2-1 to take the victory. Player of the night was Jake Hinta Penta, who in his singles game had four scores of 100 or more, a maximum 180 and a 17-dart leg in his win over Chris Chamberlain.
Lincoln Arms B beat Pinchbeck FC B 5-4 by winning the last two games, thanks to Nigel Goodwin and John Charlton. Jordan Philpott had a 106 checkout and hit five other scores of 100 or more.
Green Dragon B stayed top of Division Three by beating Punchbowl 7-2. Standout player was Jamie Robson, who had a 13-dart leg in his victory over Keane Slayven – the best leg of the league so far this season.
Tigers A beat Spalding Services 6-3 with Martin Weed on fire, scoring heavily and having a 106 checkout in his singles victory. Services were not to be outdone, and Russel Kirk fired in a 180 in the pairs and Wayne Foster had a 100 checkout in his singles win over Ian McCreery.
