‘Prolific shoplifter’ avoids jail after knife incident at Spalding store

A ‘prolific shoplifter’ after threatening staff at a Spalding store with a knife

Adam Beeson, 34, of no fixed address in the Spalding area, has been sentenced after pleading guilty to possessing a bladed article, theft from B&M in Spalding, and assault after threatening staff with the weapon.

Officers responded within minutes of the store’s 999 call and arrested Beeson at the scene. He appeared at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 5.

Beeson received a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. The court also heard he had previously failed to appear in relation to three separate shop theft offences.

In addition, a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) was granted, prohibiting him from entering retail premises within the designated Spalding area, with the exception of West Elloe Pharmacy and Spalding Market Convenience Stores.

He was also ordered to pay £97.99 in compensation.

Should Beeson commit further offences or breach the conditions of his suspended sentence and CBO, he risks imprisonment.

Sergeant Callum Corder, of South Holland Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Beeson is a prolific shoplifter and we are committed to pursuing the strongest possible outcomes against those who repeatedly target our local businesses. Alongside enforcement action, we continue to work with partner agencies to reduce reoffending and address the underlying causes of criminal behaviour.

“Criminal Behaviour Orders carry significant consequences if breached, while also providing offenders with a clear opportunity to change their behaviour.

“In this case, the order was secured following work by our local PCSO Davy. It is an excellent example of the valuable contribution Police Community Support Officers make, not only through engagement with businesses and communities, but also through preparing evidence and supporting successful court outcomes.”
