Bid to build 230 new town homes

Plans for 230 new homes in Spalding have been submitted.

Broadgate Homes wants to build the homes off Meadow Way and Hawthorn Bank to complete the Holland Park Sustainable Extension development.

Outline approval for the 2,500 homes of that was granted back in 2012, but this section remains unbuilt and the approval has lapsed.

The application would revitalise the plans and include the demolition of Hawthorn Produce Handling and Packing Ltd.

According to the Design and Access statement only 10 of the 230 homes (four per cent) are proposed for social housing, way below the 25 per cent required by the South and East Lincolnshire Local Plan.

That’s despite a Planning Statement submitted claiming the affordable level does meet planning guidance.

Broadgate’s application states that the development will be in three phases with the factory site to be complete last after its demolition.

The documentation states: “This development presents an exciting opportunity for transformative residential development, with the potential to revitalise local neighbourhoods and address the town’s growing demand for quality housing.

“Beyond providing much-needed homes, this development will inject fresh energy into Spalding’s economy, with new residential supporting local businesses.

“A thriving future for Spalding relies on the right partners to drive its regeneration.

“Broadgate Homes has the expertise, vision, and commitment to deliver high-quality homes while enhancing the community’s character and sustainability.”

The application will be decided by South Holland District Council.
