Crowland finish second again

For the second season running, Uppingham put an end to Crowland Town’s lingering Peterborough League title hopes.

After pipping the Snowden Field team to the title a year ago, this time they inflicted a 4-0 defeat on their hosts last Wednesday to confirm Netherton United as champions – who won their last game to make the result academic anyway.

The Crows conceded four more goals on Saturday, but this time managed to score seven to beat Stamford Belvedere. Matt Smith was the difference, coming off the bench to score a treble. Also on target were Harry Tidswell 2, Harry Barsby, Adam Blackbird, Aaron Fagan and Archie Rickards.

It leaves Crowland eight points adrift of top spot going into Saturday’s final game of the season at bottom club Whaplode Drove Rovers.

After that, they have a break before taking on Oakham United in the League Cup final at Deeping Rangers on Friday, May 15.

Long Sutton Athletic ended their Division One campaign eight points clear at the top after a 4-0 win against Glinton & Northborough last Wednesday and a 5-4 success at Wittering on Saturday.
