Probus donation for Friends

Members of a club for retirees have presented a cheque to a Spalding charity.

The Spalding Ladies Probus Club has, for the second year running, provided money for the Friends of Johnson Hospital, which aims to provide patients with extra items not covered by the NHS.

Friends president, Christine Lawton, was honoured to accept a cheque for £75 from Jennifer Peacock, the former Probus Club president.

Donations to the Friends go towards enhancing the lives of patients and supporting the staff at Johnson Community Hospital.

Christine said: “This generous donation will play a major part in helping us fund the purchase of something from the hospital’s wish-list.

“Thank you once again for thinking of us this year.”

A spokesman for the Friends said the group had ‘a wonderful time’ after being invited to the latest Probus event at Woodlands Hotel in Spalding.

“It wasn’t just about the donation; it was an opportunity to socialise,” the spokesman continued. “We were delighted to meet Brendan D’Abreo, secretary of the Men’s Probus Club, who gave a fascinating talk entitled This World – The Lesser Known Phenomenon.”

Both men’s and ladies’ Probus Clubs are looking for new members. Contact the ladies’ group via [email protected] and the men’s [email protected]
