Nick saddles up for charity ride

Firefighter Nick Cott, from Holbeach, is swapping his Scania fire appliance driving seat for two wheels and a saddle on May 9, as he takes on the 75-mile Grand Prix Sportive in Lincoln.

Nick (46) has served as an on-call firefighter with Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue for the past five years, based at Holbeach station. Now, he’s pushing himself in a new way – trading emergency driving for endurance cycling – all in support of a great cause.

Taking part in the event to raise funds for the National Firefighters Charity, Nick is stepping out of his comfort zone. More accustomed to navigating traffic under blue lights behind the wheel of an 18-ton fire engine, he admits this challenge will be very different – but one he’s excited to take on.

“I’m really looking forward to the ride,” Nick said. “It’s a great opportunity to support a charity that does so much for firefighters and their families. I’m hoping to raise as much as possible with the community’s support.”

You can support Nick’s efforts by visiting his Just Giving page and making a donation.

Anyone interested in becoming an on-call firefighter, more information can be found on the Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue recruitment website.
