Lt Col Bacon’s breakfast surprise

An armed forces champion has been given a special recognition award by a regimental association.

Jan Whitbourn is chair of the Royal British Legion and supports all of Spalding’s military parades as well as its Veterans Big Breakfasts.

They are events for both past and present serving personnel and their families and aims to bring them together.

The most recent one took place on February 21, as part of the national Big Breakfast which saw attendees meet up at the same time up and down the country.

There was a surprise for Jan as she was awarded an ‘Honorary Membership’ of the The Royal Anglian Regimental Association’.

A spokesman said it is ‘in recognition of Jan’s outstanding support’ for veterans. A certificate was presented by the regiment’s Lt Col Simon Bacon. Jan, who is also currently the Chair of South Holland District Council, said: “It’s a huge honour and it came as a complete surprise.”
