‘Don’t Be Dim’ push expands

A councillor’s campaign to get more cyclists with lights on their bike in South Holland has gone further afield.

District councillor Mark Le Sage, the founder of The Rightside Trust and Ella’s Project charities, has launched the Don’t Be Dim campaign.

He has negotiated with Halfords’ Spalding store for a 15 per cent discount on lights bought there.

After discussions, the initiative has now also been rolled out to the stores in Grantham and Lincoln and is running until Febraury 21.

‘Don’t Be Dim – Be a Bright Cyclist’ has the backing of Lincolnshire Police.

“It’s been really well received so far,” Coun Le Sage said. “I had a couple of emails asking if I could extend it to Grantham and Lincoln so after speaking with Halfords I’m delighted it is going even further.

“I’m very excited about the fantastic opportunity to work with a major retailer.

“We’re already now talking about potentially having similar campaign in October which the Spalding manager and deputy manager are keen to do.

“I can’t praise the Spalding staff enough, especially Leanne.

“Certainly there’s been an increase in take up of the lights.”

Coun Le Sage has also met with the Nationwide School Uniforms group about the possibility of making school clothing more visible during the darker nights.
