Spalding Hockey Club hosted the third of five primary school hockey tournaments at Glen Park, Surfleet on Friday.
The late withdrawal of Boston-based Tower Road meant that the four leagues were reduced to four teams each, but there was plenty of excitement and encouragement from the crowd for the youngsters.
In league A, current champions Monks House A carried on where they left off, winning all three of their matches.
They were made to work really hard in an opening encounter against a rapidly improving Ayscoughfee A team and only a late goal earned them a 1-0 win.
Two 6-0 wins over Boston based St Thomas’s A and St John’s completed a satisfying day.
Ayscoughfee A beat a battling St John’s team (3-1) and turned on the style to beat St Thomas’s A (7-0) to finish in second spot.
St John’s showed a lot of fight in the first appearance in this league and enjoyed the challenge.
In league B, St Norbert’s A brought back memories of their glory days winning all three games.
They opened with a close encounter against Spalding Parish (1-0) before a convincing win (4-0) over Peterborough-based Eye Primary.
A win (3-1) over old rivals John Harrox in the final game gave them the top spot.
John Harrox who had previously enjoyed two wins (both 1-0) over Eye Primary and Spalding Parish had to settle for second place.
League C was closely fought with goals at a premium.
Locals Surfleet Primary came out on top with two wins, over Gosberton Academy A (2-0) and Pinchbeck East (1-0) but were denied a full house being held to a goalless draw by Gosberton Academy B.
Pinchbeck East started well win a win (1-0) over Gosberton Academy A and were held to a draw (2-2) in and end to end encounter with the schools B team to claim second place.
Monks House showed the school has strength in depth with their B team running away with league D.
Recording 16 goals without conceding, the impressive Monks House B put Ayscoughfee B (6-0), St Norbert’s B and St Thomas’s B (both 5-0) to the sword in an outstanding display.
The other three teams each won a game to finish equal second.
Tournament Four is scheduled for Friday, March 13 at Glen Park.
