Collab that will warm up season

Two Spalding groups are coming together for charity Christmas concerts featuring around 100 musicians and singers.

The Spalding Community Choir and Spalding Encore Orchestra are combining to raise money for the Warm Spaces Project at Broad Street Methodist Church.

It provides a place to go for free over the winter period and needs funding to keep the heating on.

To do that the groups have come together for the concerts at St John’s Church in Hawthorn Bank at 7.30pm this Saturday (December 13) and the following Saturday at Broad Street Methodist Church.

Conducted by Zeph Churchill, the programme mixes well-known seasonal music with pieces drawn from film and international traditions. Highlights include music from The Snowman, Home Alone and traditional music such as O Holy Night; with a selection of music from around the world.

The concerts will also feature traditional, audience sing-along numbers.

The collaboration is a milestone for the Encore Orchestra, established to give returning players the chance to make music in a supportive community setting, and continues the choir’s focus on inclusive, local music-making with a clear community benefit.

Zeph said: “Community music-making is about far more than getting the notes right — it’s about belonging, confidence, and turning up as you are.

“These Christmas concerts bring together around 100 local people from the Spalding Community Choir and the new Spalding Encore Orchestra, and the whole point is to share something uplifting while raising money for the Warm Spaces Project.

“If you come along, you’ll hear familiar favourites, a few surprises, and you’ll be helping a brilliant local cause at the same time.”

Tickets are £10 on the door and refreshments will be provided.
