A man faces life imprisonment after he admitted the murder of a friend who died from an attack with a broken bottle on a Spalding street.
Vadims Zmicerevskis, 45, died after the incident at the junction of Green Lane and St Thomas Road in Spalding on Monday 11 November last year.
Viktors Zeglovs, 34, of no fixed address, today (Monday) appeared at Lincoln Crown Court via a videolink from Lincoln prison.
Wearing a grey sweatshirt and grey jogging bottoms, Zeglovs pleaded guilty to the murder of Vadims Zmicerevskis on November 11, 2024.
Zeglovs had previously pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and was due to stand trial.
Members of Mr Zmicerevskis family were in court to watch the guilty plea.
John Lloyd Jones KC, prosecuting, said it was accepted that whatever the intentions of Mr Zeglovs were that day he did not set out to kill his friend.
Mr Lloyd Jones described it as a “relatively trivial argument” that escalated quickly when Zeglovs drove a broken bottle towards his friend’s throat.
“Unsurprisingly he died,” Mr Lloyd-Jones added.
Mr Lloyd-Jones told the court much of the incident was covered by CCTV, and Zeglovs could be seen acting with remorse and tending to his dying friend.
Defence barrister Gordon Aspden KC said there was a joint application to adjourn the sentence of Mr Zeglovs.
Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight adjourned sentence until December 11 at Lincoln Crown Court. She told Zeglovs: “I will determine what your intent was.”
Zeglovs faces an automatic life sentence and on that date Judge Sjolin Knight will have to decide the length of time he serves in jail before he is eligible to apply for parole.
Zeglovs, who is from Latvia and followed the hearing via a Russian interpreter, was remanded back into custody until his next court appearance.
