LETTERS – BID and board – the difference

Whilst Spalding Business Improvement District (BID) on behalf of businesses is pleased to have been offered a seat on Spalding Town Board, due to some feedback we have received, it is clear there is a need to help clarify understanding about the difference between BID and the Spalding Town Board.

BID would like to help local understanding about how the plans for the future of Spalding town centre are being managed.

We have two very separate bodies involved and whilst for greatest success our plans and delivery need to align, we are keen to inform readers that funding for both is controlled and managed completely separately.

Spalding Town Board is the body responsible for delivering the Spalding Plan for Neighbourhoods.

The Plan for Neighbourhoods is a UK government initiative aimed at revitalising communities and addressing deprivation in areas that have been left behind.

Through the Town Board, Spalding will benefit from up to £20M in government funding, over a ten-year period, starting from 2026.

Spalding BID Ltd is a private registered company with a board of directors who volunteer their time to help oversee delivery of the Spalding BID Improvement Plan.

It is important to note that Spalding BID Ltd is an independent company which is not owned, governed or operated by South Holland District Council.

The maximum amount of money raised annually through BID Levy is £170,000 which will be spent on a number of project initiatives against four main themes which look to support businesses in the BID area https://www.spaldingbid.co.uk/the-bid-area

The four main themes are looking great, welcoming & safe; marketing, promotion & events; moving around & about and backing business.
