Shed inspiration for dance show

A new dance show inspired by Men’s Sheds is launching with a tour of England, including four dates in South Holland.

Long Sutton Youth Shed is listed in the credits as ‘production fabrication’ for Shed Stories which has been created by Tim Casson.

He was inspired to create the show thanks to his dad Alan’s involvement with a shed.

A spokesman for production company Casson and Friends said: “Shed Stories highlights the joy and camaraderie of these shared spaces, especially for an ageing population.

“It explores how Men’s Sheds support mental health, tackle loneliness, and offer opportunities to swap woodwork skills, have a cup of tea, and create something useful for themselves and their communities.

“It’s been made using interviews with the people who attend and organise these community spaces across the country, whittled down from 24 hours of recordings.

“Set elements have been crafted by Tim’s dad, Alan Casson, in his own Men’s Shed.

“Intimately staged with audiences surrounding the performance, Shed Stories is a heartwarming, charming production about community, connection and the little things that keep us going.”

Of the 13 shows in the initial tour, four are in South Holland.

It starts at the Holbeach Hub on Boston Road South in Holbeach at 7.30pm on October 15.

The following day it will be at the Tonic 44 cafe in Station Road Surfleet with a 2.30pm start.

On Saturday, October 18 it’s at The Sessions House in Sheep Market, Spalding, before heading to Long Sutton Men’s Shed, one of the biggest in the country, at Silverwood Garden Centre on Sunday, October 19 (time tbc).

Tim Casson said: “From the moment I heard about Men’s Sheds, I was excited by this growing phenomenon in the UK.

“The more I learnt about them, and through my interviews with ’shedders’ themselves from across the country, I started to see the amazing impact they had – not just on the people that attend, but the communities around them!”
