Harold looks for some help

An 85-year-old is looking to help maintain and build the memorial he’s creating.

Harold Payne has been working 12-hour days recently on the garden to commemorate armed forces veterans he’s created by the A17 and Anglia Motel he owns at Fleet Hargate.

One helper has had to stop doing so much due to a health issue.

Harold himself says he doesn’t mind putting the hours in as it takes away from the pain he receives from shingles, but he wouldn’t mind some help.

He’d also like to hear from anyone who may have spare building materials for the 21 foot angel statue he’s been granted planing permission and for which he himself has laid the foundations for.

“It’s my hobby now,” he says. “I don’t think people realise the amount of hours that it takes to make it look nice and a fantastic reminder for our boys.

“I’ve never done anything by half but it’s nothing compared what the veterans did for this country.”

Harold also said he’d like to thank Chislett Plant Hire for their donation of equipment.
