Former police cadet leader charged with sexual assault

A former police cadet leader has been charged in relation to an alleged sexual assault.

Timothy Smith, aged 66 has resigned from his position as a leader with Spalding Police Cadets and as a volunteer at Holbeach Police Station, Lincolnshire Police say.

The 66 year old was charged and bailed to appear at Nottinghamshire Magistrates’ Court on October 3.

A police spokesman said: “He is charged with an offence of sexual touching. It is alleged that on May 9 he intentionally touched a woman over 16 years and that touching was sexual when she did not consent and he did not reasonably believe she was consenting. Smith has resigned from his position as a volunteer at Holbeach Police Station and as a cadet leader at Spalding. The charge does not relate to a young person or person connected to the Volunteer Police Cadet programme.”
