Spalding lose way after openers’ solid stand

A middle and lower order collapse sent Spalding skidding into the bottom two of the Lincolnshire Board Premier League.

All looked good for Ollie Dring’s team when openers Jon Manton (35) and Divyeash Vaseeharan (43) put on 84 for the first wicket at home to Lindum.

However, once they both fell to James Kimber (3-25), within six runs of each other, the rest of the batting capitulated in rapid fashion under attack from Robert Cook (4-15) and Cameron Hall (3-9). It left them all out for 114 in the 33rd over, with all 10 wickets falling for just 30 runs, the last six for a paltry 10.

Despite having such a low target to defend, Spalding battled on manfully with Walter Kinlock weighing in with a 5-42 haul from his seven overs. Matthew Key also took two (2-12) as the visitors slumped from 89/1 to 105/6. However, they had plenty of overs in hand and limped across the winning line with 118 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the 20th over.

The second XI were also dismissed for a low total in Division Two of the South Lincs Border League at Newborough Seconds.

Thomas Decamps lost the toss and was asked to bat first. That did not seem too bad a call to lose when openers Neo Timothy (15) and Andrew Sorrell (17) made steady progress to 27. However, once they departed, only Dan Mulley (24) hit double figures as the visitors were sent back to the pavilion for just 78 in the 27th over with six of their batsmen failing to score.

Macey Andrews and Josh White briefly raised Spalding hopes when they took a wicket each to reduce their hosts to 32/2 but Jake Carlin (35no) and Jacob Lucas (22) eased their team to a winning 79/3 from 21 overs, with Lily Spridgen taking the other wicket.
