A two-goal burst from Jack Roberts earned Spalding United a 2-0 win at National League North side King’s Lynn Town in their final pre-season fixture.
It followed a 3-1 success at another Step 2 side, Worksop Town, and leaves the Tulips in a confident position going into Saturday’s Southern League Premier Central opener at Real Bedford.
Manager Jimmy Dean added to his squad ahead of the game with the signing of former Wycombe, Notts County, Cheltenham and Grimsby midfielder Curtis Thompson.
Dean thought the Linnets had dictated the first half but his team had come strong after the break against their full-time hosts and deserved the win.
He said: “It’s been a tough pre-season and Lynn were a very good side but we got our reward playing on the break.
“The proof will be in the pudding. We’ve got at least four games away on the trot to start the league season and it’s a really difficult start. Mentally that will be a slog.”
