GALLERY – Martin on form for a shut-out

Stand-in captain Ben Martin put in a man-of-the-match display with a string of saves to help Pinchbeck United hang on for a point in the first match at their temporary home.

The goalkeeper had little to do until the closing stages of the United Counties League Division One match against Radford at Eslaforde Park in Sleaford, but proved to be a point-saver with some stunning saves as the visitors laid siege to his goal.

Martin had picked up the captain’s armband when Joe Melson was helped off the pitch after suffering a head injury in a clash of heads with a teammate 10 minutes before half-time.

A game of few chances ended goalless. Flynn Slater and Elliott Foster had the Knights’ only goal-worthy efforts, while Radford did not test Martin until the closing stages. A frantic finale saw Pinchbeck defending frantically and attacking on the break but neither side could find the winner.

Knights: Martin, Brocklesby, Balding, Melson (Panton), Sheriff, Brooks, Foster, Howlett, Slater, Cullen (Shinn), Ward. Sub: Turenen.
Attendance: 52.
