Bins sent out – service ‘at capacity’

The waiting list for garden waste bins has been cleared, a district councillor has said, but there’s now a pause on anyone who may want to join the scheme.

South Holland residents can pay extra to have the garden waste collection, but there have been issues with sending out the brown bins the waste is collected in.

Coun Paul Barnes told a meeting of South Holland District Council in March that there were 800 bins at a council depot and 1,000 people on a waiting list.

When he brought the issue up again at the most recent meeting of the authority last week, he was told by councillor Jim Astill, portfolio holder for environmental services, that everyone on the waiting list had now received their bin

“The residents on the waiting list have been contacted and offered the service,” he said.

“Some, but not all of them have taken that offer up.

“There is now no longer a waiting list and the service is considered at capacity.

“The team is working on a number of options to provide capacity within the current boundaries they have, and it’s anticipated that this will take around two months.”
