Clean sheet for 16-year-old on debut

Youngster Alexander Barker kept a clean sheet on his debut to help Pinchbeck United to a 1-0 win at Needham Market on Saturday in the Thurlow Nunn Division One North.

He was one of two 16-year-olds and four 17-year-olds involved in Pinchbeck’s winning side.
“He made a crucial save before the end of the game,” said the Knights’ boss Lewis Thorogood who hailed a ‘good performance and result’.
“This reinforces our commitment to give young footballers the chance to play senior men’s football in the best possible environment and with professional standards we set.
“This ethos is and will continue to be the lifeblood of the club.”
The Knights also gave a debut off the bench to Jack Ratley.
“Jack is a good young talent who has worked with Mark (Melson, assistant manager) for many years. He offers us the energy and pace we look for in our players,” Thorogood said.
Pinchbeck were due to visit FC Peterborough on Wednesday night (result not known at the time of going to press) before hosting Harwich and Parkeston on Saturday.

Knights: Barker, Stevens, Doran, Melson, Cranfield, Brooks, Howlett, Panton, Slater, Cullen, Ward. Subs: Taylor, Ratley.
Attendance: 25
