Pinchbeck United came within a whisker of pulling off a cup shock on Tuesday night (Jan 21).
A double from Flynn Slater saw them draw 2-2 with Fakenham Town only for the side from a higher league to edge through 5-4 on penalties.
The Knights had been 2-0 up in the League Cup tie played at Wisbech Town.
That was thanks to Slater who capitalised on an 11th minute mix up at the back for his first.
Keeper Ben Martin made some excellent stops to frustrate the side third in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.
Then Slater himself was brought down after being put through on 72 minutes and made no mistake from the spot.
Fakenham responded just four minutes later though through Louis Henman.
Slater came within inches of a hat-trick when he saw his volley go agonisingly wide before the 83rd minute sucker punch of an equaliser.
Luke Middleton was put clean through and finished well.
The same player hit the post as the game headed into injury time before who went through was decided in the shoot out.
After eight fine penalties Pinchbeck’s Daniel Abayomi missed allowing Middleton to put his side through.
