A community Christmas dinner

The community is once again rallying around for Christmas and providing a meal for those who might otherwise be on there own.

For the past few years, Vanessa Browning has cooked dinner at St Norbert’s Church, Spalding, on Christmas Day.
This year is no different with more than 30 people already signed-up for the turkey meal served up by the founder of Community Mind Matters.
She’ll be joined in the kitchen by her daughter Rachel Woods-Turner, Coun Ingrid Sheard and other amazing volunteers.
Ollie Ford (15) is to give out presents he’s saved money for, while food company Greencore has donated selection boxes to hand out.
It’s all paid for by fundraising throughout the year, including a special day of tattoo sales by Ink Warriors, in Spalding, last week.
“It’s all about the community coming together for those that need it,” Vanessa said.
“I can’t thank everyone who has involved in this enough. From the volunteers, to Ollie, and we’re truly grateful to Greencore who have helped me so much over a number of years.”
Vanessa also won’t be relaxing on Boxing Day as she is organising an afternoon tea at Pinchbeck Baptist Church from 12pm to 3pm.
“It’s to help combat loneliness,” Vanessa said.
“We put on some food and it’s just a good place for people to come together.
“We might play games and it’s up to those who come if they want to join in.
“They can just come and enjoy a chat.
“Both Boxing Day and Christmas Day have such lovely atmospheres to them.
“I’m looking forward to it.”
