A52 through Donington set for lower speed limit

A lower speed limit looks set to be put in place on the A52 through Donington.

Planners are being asked to reduce it to 50mph from 60mph, despite calls having been made for it to be 40mph.

However, Lincolnshire Police have requested it only be 50mph saying ‘it would be more in keeping with the environment and conditions along this route’.

That’s according to the report sent to Lincolnshire County Council’s Planning and Regulation Committee which will decide on the matter next week.

“As the enforcing authority they believe that a lower limit would not be observed by the majority of drivers and high levels of non-compliance would be generated as a result,” the report continues. “In addition, a lower limit here may lead to driver frustration and more overtaking manoeuvres, risking an increase in collisions.

“For these reasons, the committee is asked to consider a 50mph limit as opposed to a 40mph limit, as either option will meet the terms of the policy.”

The report continues that there have been two reported injuries in road traffic incidents in the last five years and describes the need for a speed limit as a ‘borderline’ case.

The restriction would be put in place throughout the part of the A52 in the built up area between west of the Church Gate junction to east of the Northorpe Road turn off.
