A man who says Long Sutton’s Men’s Shed saved his life, is urging others to visit and see what it’s all about.
Frank Heinrich-Tiller had only recently moved to the area when his wife Joan died.
He went along to the shed and met a host of new friends. Now he’s the reigning Volunteer of the Year at the Men’s Shed awards, and its ambassador for the entire county of Lincolnshire.
“It’s just a great place,” Frank said of the Men’s Shed, based at Silverwood. “It saved my life.
“I don’t know what I’d have done on my own after my wife passed away not long after moving up here.
“It’s been fantastic meeting so many people and it has given me a sense of purpose.”
The shed’s doors are open 9am to 1pm every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
It has an astonishing array of tools where people can carry out their own work or join in a host of community projects. Recent ones include updating and restoring the signs for Long Sutton.
With around 100 members, there will be someone who will have experience of using the equipment.
The latest financial grant saw the shed add to its toolkit by buying a milling machine (pictured left) to carry out metalwork.
The first thing being made using the kit is something which can create briquettes to condense the plenty of sawdust members generate, to ensure it can be recycled.
Anyone thinking of joining, or who just wants to get a taste of what’s on offer can attend the forthcoming Open Day.
It takes place. Sunday November 24 10am to 4pm.
There will be free refreshments.
“All are welcome,” said Frank. “We’d love to let as many people as possible see what we do and how it could help someone they know.”
