Cocaine caused ‘Jack the lad’s’ death

A popular ‘Jack the lad’ character from Spalding died due to a cocaine overdose, an inquest into his death has heard.
Martyn Hosier was found dead in bed at his Holbeach Road home by his best friend and housemate John Crane on October 21, 2023.
Boston Coroners’ Court was told last week that the 59-year-old commonly known as ‘Snowy’ complained of feeling ill the previous night.
However, a post mortem found the sole cause of death was cocaine toxicity.
A toxicology report found 25 millilitres of pure cocaine per 100 millilitre of blood in his system as well as 642ml of benzodiazepines, a form of the drug that’s formed as a result of mixing with elements in the body.
A statement from Mr Hosier’s family stated that they were aware of a past history of drug and alcohol abuse and he’d ‘worked hard’ to kick these habits, but they were unaware he’d taken ‘hard drugs’ recently.
‘He was a Jack the lad type who had the best laugh,” the statement said. “He was the fun uncle.
“He loved all his friends and he was always there for them when they needed him.
“Martyn’s mum died in 2019 and that really hit him hard.”
The family statement described Mr Hosier as ‘a lost soul’ and that they ‘did all they could to keep him on the straight and narrow.’
A Go Fund Me page raised on £2,682 for his funeral.
Coroner Paul Cooper ruling that it was a drug related death told members of Mr Hosier’s family in attendance: “Your memories are of a Jack the Lad character. Keep those memories and put the darker ones to one side.”
