Carl’s fundraiser for mum

Over £3,000 was raised for charity by a footballer in memory of his mum.

Last month Carl Brown held a special football match in memory of his mum Heather, who died aged 61 last September after a battle with cancer.
The match saw his South Lincs Swifts side take on a Gedney Legends outfit in an entertaining 3-3 draw which was fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support on the day that would have been Heather and husband Trevor’s 40th wedding anniversary.
Although Carl injured himself in goal, he still said he enjoyed the day while his family including son Riley, (11) and daughter Sophia (8) watched on.
“It was a brilliant day,” he said. “I couldn’t believe how many people came out in Mum’s memory.
“There were about 400 to 500 there which was overwhelming really.
“We had a minute’s applause for Mum before the start.
“A huge thank you to everyone who came and donated and to those who donated raffle prizes.
“Spalding United, Peterborough United and Boston United were all among those that donated raffle prizes which was hugely appreciated.”
Carl handed over £3,133 to Macmillan following the event.
