Narrow victory for Spalding

Spalding A XV 13
St Neots 1st XV 12

After a morning of rain provided a little respite to the firm ground conditions, both sides competed enthusiastically in a scrappy affair which saw Spalding emerge as narrow winners.
Willis Ingleby’s intelligent kicks allowed Jack Patrick to race through twice to claim unconverted tries in the first half and a Ryan Firth penalty gave Town a 13-point half time advantage.
The visitors fought back after the break adding two well taken tries of their own but only added one conversion which in the end cost them the game.
Spalding defended strongly throughout but let their frustrations with the referee distract them – on another day it might have cost them a hard-fought win.
