GALLERY – Tigers get off to flying start

Holbeach United manager Chris Carter was without several members of his first-choice team but still returned from the opening Thurlow Nunn League match of the season with a win.

The Tigers chalked up a comfortable 3-0 victory at the second string of National League North new boys Needham Market after withstanding early pressure.
They took the lead after 27 minutes when a long through ball released Kyle Compton and he tucked the ball away.
Five minutes later Ryan Cook doubled the advantage with a stunning strike from the edge of the penalty area.
The final goal came after 64 minutes when Jordan Keeble got on the end of a cross to finish from close range.
Cook fired a shot into the side netting and Compton was denied a second goal when goalkeeper Roan Tucker pulled off a stunning save.
Manager Carter admitted he could not have asked for more from his team.
“We made a slow start but we sorted ourselves out after about 20 minutes and after that we dictated it.
“It was a tough start because we’ve never had a full squad available for pre-season games and even now I’ve got a few still missing. It’s going to take two or three weeks to get up and running properly. But I’m pleased with that, and a clean sheet, that’s the main thing. They never really troubled us that much. Our overall performance was really pleasing and it’s something to build on.”
Tigers at Needham: Waters, Cash, Bassindine-Matthews (Lee), Nicholson, Ling, Carter, Thorne, Ibeneme, Keeble (Hebblethwaite), Cook, Compton. Sub (not used): Richardson.
Attendance: 42.
Carter returned to one of his former clubs on Tuesday and picked up all the points at Swaffham Town thanks to an 87th-minute winner from substitute Sam Harris.

* Holbeach United have a new chairman and Peter Warrington is keen to see the club taking big steps.
“My vision is to establish Holbeach United as the top club in this region, through performance and quality of its people and facilities,” he said.
“We will work with those within the community to promote better relationships. As the town of Holbeach grows, this club will grow with it.”
