Blackstones win makes it four county titles for Perkins

Spalding & District Bowls’ Marion Perkins won three county singles titles at the finals of the Lincolnshire Women’s Bowling Federation, at Moorlands Railway Bowls Club in Lincoln, and followed up with a fourth title at Blackstones Bowls Club, Stamford, in the Lincolnshire (EBA) four-bowl singles.

Victory against Helen Butler, from Burton House, Boston, earned her the county champion title and will see her represent Lincolnshire at the finals in Leamington.
She will also represent the county at the National Federation finals in Skegness at the end of August.
Perkins beat Sue Grimbleby (Scunthorpe) 21-16 in the two-bowl, Margaret McKie (Eslaforde, Sleaford) 21-20 in the four-bowl singles and Maureen Wilson (Cherry Willingham) 21-13 in the Secretaries Cup final.
Other Spalding players also represented their clubs in the semi-finals. Sam Richardson (Gosberton) lost to eventual champion June Deboer from Brumby Hall, Denise Mackie and Maggie Wheatley (Spalding Castle) lost to eventual champions Sue Bennett and Jenny Rowe (Shires) in the pairs, Wheatley also lost her senior singles to Mary Johnson, of Horncastle. Sue Hoyles, Pam Rate and Barbara Cave (Goodfellowship) lost to a Cleethorpes side by only two shots in the two-bowl rinks.
Mackie, Wheatley and Jenny Collins won through to the finals in the three-bowl rinks but lost to a trio from Horncastle.
On the women’s Lincolnshire teams front, Spalding players helped the Donald Stewart and Silver Jubilee Vase teams reach the Skegness finals by winning their respective northern leagues.
The Silver Jubilee Vase team won all their matches but the Donald Stewart squad had to beat league leaders Derbyshire in the last match by 16 of the 18 points available. A hard-fought match, played at North Hykeham saw Lincolnshire manage to get the four rink wins and aggregate score points needed to progress
The Silver Jubilee Vase team (Petrine Ault, of Moulton Harrox; Trish Stafford, Castle; and Pam Rate, Goodfellowship) will play on Saturday, August 17, 11.45am, and the Donald Stewart team (Maggie Wheatley, of Castle; Susan Hoyles, Goodfellowship; Christine Jackson and Julie Hicks, Moulton Harrox) will play in the afternoon of the same day.
