Closure of part of Wardentree Lane for eight weeks announced as works start on A16 junction at Pinchbeck

Part of Wardentree Lane at Pinchbeck is set to be closed for eight weeks from July 15 as part of Levelling Up works on its junction with the A16 which started today (Monday).

Lincolnshire County Council delayed starting work on the scheme for Saturday’s Spalding Flower Parade due to it is also continuing to work on the next roundabout south at the road’s junction with the A151.

That project has been delayed and the authority says it now won’t be finished until autumn.

It means there will be around six months where roadworks will be taking place at both junctions less than a mile apart.

And the county council today announced that Wardentree Lane at the A16 junction, also known as the B11880 will be subject to a full eight- week closure starting Monday, July 15.

As part of an estimated 42 weeks of work, temporary 30mph speed limits and barriers around narrowed lanes are already in place at the junction while night time temporary traffic signals will be put in place in the Autumn, the council said.

The work is part of the £20m Levelling Up work being done on six roundabouts on the A16.

Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “With our ‘Levelling Up’ improvements at the A16 Springfield Roundabout now past their midway point, we’ve started work today on giving its neighbouring junction – the A16/B1180 Pinchbeck Roundabout – a major overhaul.

“Our main goal with this project is to reduce congestion and improve journey times on the A16, while also creating more capacity for agri-food sector vehicles and future-proofing the roundabout for A16 upgrades down the line.

“This will be a huge undertaking that will see the roundabout rebuilt with wider inner lanes and longer approaches and exits on the A16 North. We’ll also be installing an all-new drainage system, signage, street lighting and road surfacing.

“The roundabout and its connecting legs will all look very different when we’re finished on-site.

“As with all of our major road improvement projects, some disruption is inevitable.

“However, we’ll be doing all we can to keep people moving while also maintaining access to all businesses.”

Lincolnshire County Council has created a video of how the new roundabout will look. It’s available at https://youtu.be/011BmdN1M-A
