SADOS on look out for new home

A group with over 150-years of putting on productions in Spalding is on the lookout for a place to keep some of its equipment.

For nearly 20-years the Smith family has generously allowed the group to store bits at a shed off Monks House Lane, however that’s now been bought by those looking to complete the Spalding Western Relied Road.
Currently members are having to store items at their own premises.
But the lack of place to store the equipment they need to put on the huge variety of shows is proving to be a problem.
Ideally, a place where they could rehearse as well would also be welcomed.
SADOS’s Kay Wood, said: “Our biggest worry is that as a society with over 150 years of history and with a huge back catalogue of musicals, plays, revues and pantomimes, we are sorry that we have to, at this current time, declare ourselves homeless.
“It’s not a good state of affairs to find ourselves in, as the oldest theatre group of its kind in the country, founded in 1870.
“We were extremely grateful to the Smith family.
“Since then we’ve been totally reliant on the good nature of friends of the society who are storing items for us and have let us rehearse in their premises.
“Finding new accommodation has had to become our main priority as a society, with no success to date, despite our on-going requests around the district and constant fundraising efforts by the committee, in order to be ready if any such premises can be found.
“If anyone can offer any permanent premises, or know of any premises that might be suitable for us to try to hire, rent or even do up, then please get in touch.”
Kay continued that the group was after a typical village hall or industrial unit.
“Ideally we would need heat, water and toilets and floor space for rehearsing.
“We would be willing to rent, “do up,” or even try to purchase a property if anyone could help.”
SADOS’s latest performance, a big stage remake of Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em is showing at 7.30pm every night this week until Saturday, November 11.
