Rob Ambrose reckons that Spalding Town are in for one of their toughest Lincs ECB Premier League games of the season on Saturday.

Town visit a Lincoln Lindum outfit that lost their opener at Sleaford by 13 runs – but Ambrose is sure that they will be among the title contenders this year.

Although they were boosted by a 15-point haul against an equally strong Market Deeping last weekend, Spalding will go into the game as underdogs.

And Ambrose joked that his side may have to play a bit of ‘filthy cricket’ if they are to get something from the clash.

He said: “Make no mistake about it, Saturday is a very tough game for us.

“For me, they will be in the top two or three teams come the end of the season.

“I’m not sure if they’ve got their overseas lads available or not, but I’m aware that they’ve made a few decent signings from Melbourne.

“They’ve got a very good young side and I’m expecting a very tough afternoon.

“I said last year that we played some filthy cricket to get a result or two. Maybe we’ll have to do it again!”

Town are boosted by the return of all-rounder Chris Dring, who missed last weekend’s opener.

Teenager David Thomas will again be in the squad, having impressed against Deeping.

Ambrose told The Voice that he hopes to use the 16-year-old as much as possible this season.

He added: “David did really well in the field and is certainly one for the future.

“He didn’t get a bat against Deeping, but he’ll certainly get plenty of opportunities with us.”
