Croquet season gets off to cracking start

Croquet teams from across the county were invited to Pinchbeck Croquet Club to take part in the Lincolnshire Opener as a start of season tournament.

Pairs from as far afield as Gainsborough and Torksey joined with teams from Louth, Woodhall Spa, Dunston, Boston and Branston, as well as Pinchbeck.
Each team played four games with Pinchbeck and Dunston finishing their group games unbeaten. Dunston progressed to the final through conceding fewer hoops. This was contested against a strong Torksey pair but Dunston left with the honours.
Event organiser Tim Barzycki said: “I was surprised but pleased that all the Lincolnshire clubs entered.
“It was a very enjoyable day and I thank Terry Sparks for managing on the day and the other club members for helping out in the background.
“This was the first event of this kind and it is hoped to run it again next year.”
Croquet can be played by all abilities and all ages with different versions of the game to suit different ability and is played at Pinchbeck between March and November.
