Holbeach super-surgery to bring doctors under one roof

A new state-of-the-art medical centre is on the cards for Holbeach – bringing the town’s existing surgeries together under one roof.

Holbeach-based firm Ashley King Developments is seeking permission to build a new surgery, together with retail pharmacy, on the former Langwith Builders’ site in Church Street.

The proposal, which will be submitted to South Holland District Council imminently, would see the current surgeries – Littlebury Medical Centre and Holbeach Medical Centre on Park Road – amalgamated under one roof, with room for expansion as and when necessary.

Although the final design of the centre is yet to be determined, it will provide around 1,500sq m of accommodation within a two storey building.

Access to the site from Church Street would be improved and parking space provided for up to 80 cars.

Cycling to the centre will be encouraged with the provision of both patient and staff covered cycle parking.

Company director Ashley King said: “We have been looking to provide a state-of-the-art medical centre for Holbeach for a number of years and hopefully this proposal will be considered favourably by both the district council and the NHS, allowing us to finally bring the plans to fruition.”

Lincolnshire county councillor Nick Worth is welcoming the plans.

He said: “This is great news for Holbeach.

“For a long time now people have been saying that the town needs improved medical facilities to meet demand.

“I will be pushing the clinical commissioning groups and the NHS to move forward with this as soon as possible.

“I would also like to see services offered by Holbeach Health Clinic moved to the new building.”

The new medical centre will be accessible to everyone thanks to a series of design features including:
tapping rails leading to entrances
wide internal corridors
portable hearing loops
13 person lifts to the upper floor
tactile signs
room layouts to give wheelchair access where necessary.

There will also be dedicated staff on hand to provide assistance.
